The European Parliament passed the Directive on the protection of whistleblowers (2019/1937) on 07.10.2019. According to the Directive, companies must essentially adapt to the following innovations:
6. Obligation to implement sanctions against employers
Member States are obliged to introduce "proportionate and dissuasive sanctions", amongst other things, in the event that employers fail to comply with the obligation to respect the confidentiality of whistleblowers' identities or fail to take appropriate follow-up action.
